This week’s song is Bon Iver - Blood Bank. This song has been stuck in my head since the day I heard it, and that’s been like 2 months. I think it may be my most favorite song of all time. Painfully good. I hope that you all enjoy it as much as I do.

Episode #21 - I won Rhinebeck.
Posted by Jackie in Show Notes on October 19th, 2009
Happy surprise edition!
What I’m Kniting/Spinning
-The Mustard Scarf is DONE!
-Started on a top-down vanilla sock with the guidance of Jasmin the Great.
Ooh Shiny
-Got delayed out of Chicago, ended up getting in about an hour late. Got picked up and we headed out.
-Had dinner that was awesome.
-Went to Stew Leonards - coolest grocery ever
-Meghan used the mom voice on us
-Woke up really early
-Beautiful drive
-Got there early, walked a bit then had to go get the swag boxes for the meet and greet
-Boxes were heavy.
-Huge crowd, apparently free stuff does that.
-Met Guido from “It’s a Purl, Man!”
-Got to see Tammy!!!!!
-Fleece sale.
-Free fleeces. 14 lbs!
-Rav party rocked - met Jess and Casey! OMG.
-Tammy’s a genius and brought marshmallows to roast.
-We were out of the hotel for over 18 hours Saturday. GO GO GO. I was a bobble head in the car. We tried to chat but our thoughts didn’t make sense.
-Sunday was another early day. We got to shop and see everything, met a few more listeners.
-Got there, and we were walking, I looked over on the groundand was like “HEY!” And found $20. So, we ate for free that day.
-Fair food ROCKED: artichoke, pot pie, lamb soup and sausage, cotton candy
-Left the festival about 4 or so, then came back to try and pack the hotel and decompress.
-Up at THREE am today.
-Flight delays. Then I got bumped from my flight. So much for my get in early and go day.
-You can thank Delta’s overbooking for this podcast recording, as otherwise I’m not sure when I’d have time to record in the next few days.
-Summary: Had a super awesome time. I got to do and see literally everything that I wanted to, made out like a bandit, and am the happiest girl in the world right now, even after being stuck in the airport for 5 extra hours.
Housekeeping!
-My contribution to the swag bag was buttons. They were a shockingly huge hit, and we had EVERYONE asking where we’d gotten them. So, because I had so many requests this weekend, I’m going to make up another batch (they’ll have a different tag line, since those said “Rhinebeck 2009″) and they’ll be available to anyone who makes a $5 donation to the podcast. This will help me cover the button and shipping costs, and then I’ll use the rest of the donations to help pay for hosting and prizes. You can find the donate button on the shownotes page. Those who have already made donations (thanks!) will be shipped a special edition Rhinebeck button in the next week or so.

Episode #14 - I love you guys.
Posted by Jackie in Show Notes on September 2nd, 2009
This last week has been an especially rough one for me. I’ve been trying not to touch on the harder parts in the podcast, in fear of bringing you all down. This week I received a few really wonderful notes and reviews, and I cannot thank you all enough for your super kind words. It has honestly made this week a kajillion times better.
In other news, it looks like the podcast was featured in the August issue of Let’s Knit magazine! I haven’t managed to get my hands on a copy (but I am still trying!) but here’s what they had to say:
“A relatively recent addition to the podcast catalogue, KIPing It Real is a whimsical broadcast from across the water. Avid crafter, Design Shark, discusses her inspirations, projects, knitting in public and all of her favourite things.”
Thanks to Witty on Ravelry for taking the time to type that up.

The pattern is what Chuck calls a “basic toe up ribbed sock pattern” - and it’s really nice looking. One thing that I really enjoy about it is how close the ribbing gets to the tip of the toe. I feel like that makes feet look shorter. And the PDF design is faboo.

-I don’t care if it’s cheesy, I love you guys. You’ve easily gained status as my Flavor of the week.

Banana Split Cupcakes - The Much Awaited FINAL Recipe :D
Posted by Jackie in Other Stuff on July 22nd, 2009
Hello everyone! Here’s the recipe. If anything is confusing or doesn’t make sense, please let me know so that I can clarify for everyone.
Enjoy!!
—-
Banana Split Cupcakes
INGREDIENTS:
1 package (18-1/4 ounces) vanilla cake mix
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup cherry juice (from the jar of marschino cherries)
2 tbl spoon of cherry extract (this is nearly the entire bottle if you get the smaller extract - I’d go for the big bottle)
1 cup mashed ripe bananas (usually 2 large bananas)
3 eggs
1/3 cup oil (optional, but will make a denser, more moist cake)
1.5 cups miniature semisweet chocolate chips, divided
4 tbs milk (I prefer to use Silk Very Vanilla instead…)
1 jar whole maraschino cherries, drained and patted dry
Â
PREPARATION:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line 24 standard (2-1/2-inch) muffin pan cups with paper baking cups.
2. Combine cake mix, water, cherry juice, cherry extract, bananas, eggs, and oil in large bowl. Beat with electric mixer at low speed about 30 seconds or until moistened. Beat at medium speed 2 minutes.
3. Spoon batter into prepared baking cups, filling roughly 1/2 full.
Â

Fill the tins about half full...
Â
3. Melt 1 cup chocolate chips at 45 sec intervals, stirring in between, in the microwave using a microwave safe container. When fully melted, add 2 tbl spoons milk and mix until blended.
4. Spoon dollops of melted chocolate mixture into batter, stirring with a chopstick of toothpick until marbled. The chocolate hardens quickly, so *[dollop, mix, dollop mix] to prevent chocolate lumps.
Â

Add a dollop of chocolate mixture...
Â

Swirl in the chocolate fast!
Â
Â
4. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until toothpick inserted into centers comes out clean. Cool in pans on wire racks 10 minutes. Remove cupcakes to racks; cool completely.
4. Frost cupcakes with your favorite marshmallow icing recipe, or try the one below for an added touch of deliciousness.
5. Combine remaining 1/2 cup chocolate chips and additional 2 tbl spoons milk in small microwavable bowl. Microwave at 45 second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth. Place chocolate mixture into a sandwich baggie (be careful - it’s HOT!). Snip a tiny bit off the corner and drizzle chocolate mixture over cupcakes. Place one whole cherry on each cupcake.
Note: If desired, omit chocolate drizzle and top cupcakes with sprinkles.
Â
Yields about 26 standard size cupcakes.

Marshmallow Icing
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 large egg whites
1/3 cup water
2 teaspoons light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
2 teaspoon pineapple extract
PREPARATION:
Whisk sugar, egg whites, 1/3 cup water, light corn syrup, and cream of tartar in large metal bowl to blend. Set bowl over saucepan of barely simmering water (do not allow bottom of bowl to touch simmering water). Using handheld electric mixer, beat on medium speed until mixture resembles soft marshmallow fluff, about 4 minutes. Increase mixer speed to high and beat until mixture is very thick, about 3 minutes longer. Remove bowl from over simmering water. Add pineapple extract and continue beating until marshmallow frosting is completely cool, about 5 minutes longer.
Ice cupcakes with an icing knife of piping bag.

And, there you have it! Yummy cupcakes.
